Andy Brunk

Moderator of GET SALTY

Born in 1956, Andy Brunk was naturally drawn to the ocean, all due to living on its  New Jersy shores for almost his entire life. As a youth, he would clean fish for a nickel per fish.

Surprisingly he would make $20 a day doing just this...When he and his brother would walk home from a days work, they would pass behind a fish market to only have the owner come out and asked if they wanted a job paying $50.

Born in a bloodline of commercial and charter fishermen on the Mississippi Gulf Coast, Jeff new the direction he was headed at a young age. He started out deck handing around 12 years old and got his first boat at age 15 which is when his first real taste of tournament fishing started. Jeff eventually completely left the commercial scene after graduating from Texas A&M Maritime Academy where he eventually worked his way up the licensing ladder to Master Unlimited on an 850ft drillship. Throughout the years Jeff spent the majority of his 6 months off traveling and fishing tournaments from Matagorda Texas to the Keys. His team, Strictly Business, has found themselves at the tops of leader boards dozens of times with cobia being their bread and butter. While most people see ling (cobia) as a seasonal opportunistic catch they catch them on a consistent basis year round. The team discriminates against no fish and targets everything from Mangrove snapper to Goliath Grouper and on to Swordfish. Captain Justin Brunk

Pro Staff Contributor of GET SALTY

Captain Justin Brunk, grew up in the beautiful Northeastern countryside of  Glenwood Maryland. His passion for fishing started young by going to a small pond to catch Bluegill and Bass at the end of the street with his dad and younger brother. When he was around the age of ten, one night at the dinner table his parents said they had a question for him and his brother.  “Boys do you want to go to Disney world or get a boat?” My brother and I both yelled “ boat! Boat! Boat!” It was on that day, Captain Justin Brunk had his life handed to him.  The family started fishing and crabbing in the Chesapeake every weekend. College was never for Justin, so he just went to work doing construction driving dump trucks, operating heavy equipment, logging and was good at it, to include made some good money. He bought a house and lived in it for a year, but he wasn’t happy. He thought to himself "is this the end of the road, am I stuck here"? So he decided to dream of something bigger, something adventurous, something that he was passionate for... So he rented out his house, packed his stuff into a camper and moved to Marathon, in the Florida Keys. Upon arriving, he found a job as a deckhand on a charter boat, and because he worked hard for a few years, he ended up making a good name for himself.

Guess what? This young man from the  Maryland countryside became a USCG Captain. After that, the sea couldn't even hold him back. He started running boats and the rest was history...

The Captain states "I wish I would have known all of this sooner in life but everything happens for a reason. I love what I do. This life chose me, and I have the best job in the world".

Yes you do Captain...
